[The Shatterdome's internal comms channel flickers on, showing the, no doubt, familiar face of Ranger Herc Hansen. The legendary pilot of Jaeger Lucky Seven, who took a controversial move into moving from active service to testing the new models as they are ran off the production line. His partner left the PPDC after that three-Jaeger drop in Manila with Gispy Danger and Horizon Brave, which was also Herc's last time in one of the machines fighting.

He still looks, no less, the pilot on all the news stories.]

Training in the Kwoon, 12:00. Open to all, pilots, J-TECH, K-Sci... Whoever. Just bring your own kit, we've not got enough to let out.

Herc, himself, will be in the room from 11:30, mostly using the adjoining gym to warm up. Skipping, jogging, going a few with the punching bag, the Australian seems to have remained in peak fitness. He's free to approach, for talking to, or even to accept a challenge to Hanbōjutsu.

[Ben Hobbs has all the best markers of an up and coming young pilot: he's wickedly intelligent, good at tactics, drifts perfectly with his sister and copilot Abigail, and picked up all the combat lessons quickly. He's strong, brave, young, and fit.

The only place he's lacking - and glaringly so, for all his good points - is the camaraderie that holds units like the PPDC together. He and Abigail are their own unit amongst a group of their peers, and they both seem content to continue this trend. It is in fact rare that it's only Ben that shows up to the training session, although he did in fact bring his own kit.

He scans the room even after spotting Hansen, marking any other occupants, what they're doing, and how as he finds a place to drop his gear near the wall, already dressed for a workout and, as always, focused.]

Not a very impressive turnout.

[Ben gets an appraising glance up and down, not hostile by any stretch of the imagination. He steps forward, offering a hand.]

Don't think I know ya, mate. Herc Hansen, a pleasure.

[There is a very clear moment in which Ben considers not shaking Herc's hand at all; Ben is not friendly. He is, however, capable of respect and so he does after a moment.]

Ben Hobbs, sir. That will change in good time.

Word of advice, Ranger.

[Herc moves slowly into the centre of the ring of mats, twirling his hanbo, before spinning on his heel to face Ben.]

Don't tell me what to think.

[Ben is there when Herc spins, doesn't flinch, his own weapon in his hand and brought with him out onto the mat already raised into a basic, ready defense. His expression doesn't falter.]

All due respect, sir, I wasn't. I was merely stating a fact. [It is Ben's intention that everyone will know the names of the pilots of the Shrike by the time this war is done. It will not be for the tragedy of their loss.]
