When the Admiral told me the deal, he really undersold this place.

[There's a rough-sounding, Australian-accented voice coming from your network, the feed flickering to a man who's appearance matches his voice. Rough. He looks like he's been through a few bad fights. A sling is visible around his right arm, and steri-strips along a cut on his forehead.]

Still, it's better than where I've come from. At least until we fix it up... My name's Herc Hansen, I'm a warden. And, honestly, the sooner I get my bloody inmate, the better. No offense to you lot, but a lot's restin' on my deal. Rather get it on the road as soon as possible.

[A pause.]

Oh, and anyone good at fixing broken arms?

[Welp. He doesn't strike Merlin as a man who cares to hear much sympathy, so he doesn't hand any out.]

Yes. Come to the Infirmary on Level 2 and I can treat you.

My name's Merlin, I'm a Warden and physician here.

[oldmanstriker]

Right. On my way.

[And he is, the feed shutting off as he grabs up the device.]

[Merlin'll be waiting for him on the ward. He has some supplies ready, but whether or not he'll need them depends on his patient, really. Regardless of his background, the man gave the affect of a soldier, and one who's pragmatic about the need for treatment for his injuries.]

[Herc walks in, glancing around the room, taking stock of his surroundings, before his gaze settles on the young man in front of him.

What's evident now, in person moreso than over the network, is that the man looks tired, yet still alert, posture straight.]

You're Merlin?

I am.

[He pauses only briefly.]

I can set and splint your arm, and clean and redress your other wounds, or I can use magic and heal them altogether.

[It's still kind of weird to just put it all on the table that way.]

[Merlin doesn't just shrug dismissively, but he doesn't look in the least bit defensive either. It's a fact of life for him; always has been.]

A lot of people here have magic or some skill like it. Your world doesn't?

No. [Just giant extra-dimensional monsters.] What would this magic do, exactly?

It would heal your arm as if it had never been broken. The process of healing hurts no more than the injury itself.

[Take it or leave it.]

So... [Give him a sec to parse this.] Healin' it would hurt as much as breakin' it in the first place?

[Merlin shakes his head.]

No. Healing it wouldn't hurt any more than I expect it's hurting right now.

[oldmanstriker]

It's not.

[A slight lie. He's had worse, though...]

No side-effects? No costs?

[takeyouapart]

[It's a broken bone, guy. Those hurt. But he won't call him on it; it's not worth arguing the small stuff with stoic types. He's had soldiers and knights showing up in Camelot's infirmary, claiming they were fine when they had to be carried in on a stretcher.]

[He fidgets for a second, hand stuffed in the pocket of a well-worn pair of beige cargo pants, glancing around, before looking back at Merlin.]

Alright, mate. What do I need to do?

[takeyouapart]

Take off the sling so I can take a look at what I'm doing.

[It's not strictly necessary, but his healing rarely extends to broken bone, and he suspects it might be easier for Herc to swallow if he inspects the damage first.]

Has someone set the bone, or has it just been bound?

[oldmanstriker]

Bone's been set. [Remarked as he starts to, carefully, remove his sling.]

Thank you.

[He looks at his arm for only a moment. There's not much to establish from the outside, except to confirm that it looks like it's been set straight. He carefully slips one hand under Herc's arm, holds his other over the dark bruising.]

Purhaele.

[His eyes gleam a bright, rich amber for just a moment, and he feels the flow of energy from his body into his patient's. The mending is quick, and complete, leaving his skin unmarked and his bone whole.]

[oldmanstriker]

[And the pain fades.

Herc waits for an indication that he's done before examining his arm, flexing his fingers.

Safe to say he looks equal parts amazed and impressed.]

Bloody hell...

[takeyouapart]

[Merlin smiles and steps back.]

Better?

[oldmanstriker]

Yeah, I...

[He stretches his arm out, still looking amazed at the fact his arm is healed entirely.]

[takeyouapart]

You're welcome.

[Merlin smiles just a little crookedly.]

Try not to let it happen again?

[oldmanstriker]

[An amused snort.]

Trust me, mate, I hate to feel crippled. If it happens again, it'll be beyond my control.

[takeyouapart]

[He nods. Nobody really goes out looking to get their arms broken.]

I'll be here if it does. Welcome to the Barge, Herc.

[oldmanstriker]

[A grunt, but a seemingly good-natured one.]
